I'm a trashy kinda girl...

Are you?? A "Dumpster Diver" that is?? Or maybe that should be termed "Trash Taker?" Either way I am forced to admit that I am one. When I was little we lived in a ski resort community is California. There was a place with about six dumpsters that everyone brought their stuff too. Not trash...no no, but stuff! Like lamps, and lawn furniture. It was better than any junk store! The town would bring stuff one a month and everyone would "trade" trash:) It was SO fun!
So, it is in my blood to love stuff like this beauty. We were driving home from a trip to Anthro...I mean Austin and we were a block from our house when I saw this little jewel sitting with someone's trash! I mean really! Who throws this away? It's an antique! So I promptly made my hubby make the block and pull over and I tried to do the right thing and knock to make sure it was indeed mine for the taking. No one answered so I took that as a yes:) Luckily we were in my jeep and we had ample room for both the headboard and the foot board. It needs to be refinished but all in all it is in great shape!
So then while we were loading this (keep in mind that my hubby is laughing hysterically at me!) a car stops and the guy rolls down the window and asks me "Do you need another one like that?" Maybe, why? So it turns out that he has one like it that he is getting rid of and if I want it it is mine! SAWEEET! Two free headboards? Yes Please! Anyways, we are going tomorrow to get the other one:) Wish me luck that it is as nice as this one!

A White Christmas?

Well, at least a white Christmas Eve! It's been a loooong time since we've had snow on or anywhere near Christmas here:) I am loving it and so is my baby girl!! Merry Christmas Eve!

ps: This is white for us...I know in most parts this is far from a lot of snow:) In Texas if you can see the snow anywhere other than the sky its a miracle!

Have Yourself a Merry Little...

Christmas!!

Yikes!

I just finished wrapping all my presents! It's 12:07am my time! SO I technically finished on Christmas Eve!

Scrappy Holidays

I had a last minute gift to make yesterday. When I mean last minute I mean I had to make it in an hour or two:) Who doesn't love a little pressure. It was my own fault. I made a quilt for this person. But...I threw it over Ava's bed to get a visual on size and you know. It just looked sooo cute and it is all Momo's Hello Betty...which I LOVE! So on to plan B for the person's gift:) Selfish of me right? So anyway I was racking my brain and I decided to make a bag. Ruby made one a while back with some beautiful hand embroidered fabric that I don't have so I had to emprovise:) I dug through my scrap basket and found a ton of flowered fabric. I cut out the flowers and some branches and leaves and outlined them so that they'd fray with time! Then I braided the handles and called it a day:) LOVE it! I have to tell you the truth! I wanted to keep this too. But that was a little too selfish and I couldn't bring myself to do it:)

Happy Holidays!!!

Yummy Fun

We put together a gingerbread house for the first time this year. The whole family, including the dogs worked on it and it turned out pretty cute:) My celebrity girl didn't want her picture taken and this is the best shot I could get of the construction in progress!!

I LOVE these! I am about to order them and if they are anywhere near as adorable in person as they are online I will be head over heals for them:) Who wouldn't be! A ponytail holder that doesn't hurt your head or leave marks in your hair? SOLD! Maybe I'll wear these when we're in LA for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! Did I mention that I am excited about that too? Oh yes I am! Can't wait!

Now go to this site and love on these sweet little pieces of elastic;)

Snow...

In Texas? Yes, but only for about an hour. It's now sunny and a pretty blue sky! What a tease this weather is:) We're drinking apple cider and decorating the tree tonight come hell or high water. But one plus, the hubs now has no recourse from putting up the Christmas lights:) And my baby girl was enthralled with the "NO." As you can see in this picture!! LOVE it!

LOVE this!!

http://www.livingwithlindsay.com/2009/11/librarians-please-avert-your-eyes.html

I made two of these for less than three dollars. One each for the wreath forms at the Dollar Tree and five cents for the two books I bought at the used book store! Sadly I didn't take any pictures of the two that I made. Good thing I've got another couple to do that I can share!!

Not ready!!

How did we go from beach weather to rainy and 44 degrees?? Lord I cannot keep up! Although I did get to wear my super cute rain boots tonight which was a small plus in the land of minuses :)

But really...how is it already December? How is my birthday this Saturday and HOW is Christmas in just three short weeks? Yikes!

Tomorrow brings tree decorating and house lighting! Wish me luck!

Thankful

A day late but definitely not a dollar short! I am SO thankful for my little family! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I'm off to battle the black Friday sales:)

Oh and I am also thankful that "The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You!"
49-39 is a sweet score in my book!

Pic Courtesy of Anthro.

Did a little project with these for Ava Kate's room. Sadly, I can't show it to you. My printer and computer apparently broke up while I was away for the weekend and they haven't started talking again so I can't get the pictures from my camera card in my printer, to my computer:) Yay! Maybe tomorrow will be a better day in the world of technology!

Weekend Randomness

Oh don't you just love random weekends? I do. You know the ones where you kind of just go with the flow and they end up being just what you needed? This weekend was so one of those weekends for me. We went to the game... hence the awesome game pictures. Why we can't seem to synchronize our closed eyes and fake smiles so that we can get one good picture I do not know:) But the game was fun...hot. I know I live in Texas but even here November is supposed to be chilly. I got a farmer's tan at the game...I mean really! When is this white girl gonna figure out the sunscreen thing?
Oooh look...cute smile...closed eyes:( Maybe next time!
Here's a totally random picture from our totally random weekend. A house...on Windsor in Austin. I want it. I'll take the gardener too. Maybe the gardener is a bad sign? Like a sign that I will never, ever be able to afford this house? Nah...I'm ignoring that and sticking with my plans of charming the owners into selling it to me...or giving it to me? Yep! That's a better plan!
Oh...back to Longhorns. This is Bevo riding in his caddie...you know that song I Got my Game on? That's his song. There's a really cute video they play at the game that is all about him and his game:) What a cutie!
Ah and lastly on my random list of pictures is this crazyness! What?? You see no crazyness? Look hard up in the left hand corner. Those are Marines. In cammies. Hmm still nothing? I have never in my career as a Marine wife seen a Marine in cammies off base. Besides driving home of course. NOT allowed! They must be special...those men in cammies, because Memorial stadium is certainly not a base:)

So to wrap it up here I hope yall had a wonderful weekend! And I hope your week is cheery as well!! Tomorrow I'm planning on posting Ava's new big girl room! I know...pins and needles:)

Yumo!

Have yall ever been to the Melting Pot? It is SO good...expensive, but good! On date night this weekend we went and I swear it was the best food I've ever had! Yall need to go...even if you have to not eat the rest of the week to make up for how much you spend:) it's worth it!

One of my favorite things...

I love Halloween...and my favorite part of the whole thing is the pumpkin seeds we get from the pumpkins! Am I super weird for loving these? You know like cleaning them and baking them and eating them? Is that odd? Do other people do that?? Either way I am in HOG heaven right now because of those babies right there.
It helped that our pumpkins were obviously on steroids. Seriously my pumpkin was one step down from the ones that they cut open and make boats out of. What? You haven't heard of that either? Hm...I'm looking weirder and weirder huh? Oops:)
One last pic of my best girl and my sweet hubby. Oh and a dog butt. What's a nice family pumpkin carving picture worth if there isn't a bog's behind smack in the middle? Not much I'd say, not much:)

Hope yall are enjoying your pumpkins as much as we are!!

We bleed Burnt Orange

I haven't gotten to go to a game all season since I have a Saturday class this semester. But this Saturday was an off day and my wonderful father in law got me and my mother in law tickets that were right next to his and my hubby's season tickets! It was So much fun! I love football...like with a passion. I'm definitely not a football widow:) I am right there in the action with my hubby and our daughter is the same way. So needless to say I had a blast at the game...I had a sno cone...it was perfect football weather...I got to see the band march...we won...so it was a perfect day:)I can't wait until I am done with school and I can have a season ticket too!!

Taking my couch to a "hole" new level

Remember when I showed you the pictures of my couch that my oh so sweet puppy customized for me?? And remember how I had no clue as to how I was going to fix it seeing as it was tattered and beyond the point of a little glue helping it at all? Well I finally stopped avoiding walking by that half of the room and sat down to see what I could do...nothing!! But I did make a little trip to Ikea and I got some bold but neutral fabric that had a background close to the couch color. I decided to do a big stripe/patch/I have no idea what to call it down the middle to cover the hole. I think it turned out as well as it could. I love it. I did the same thing to the love seat so that they at least match. It obviously looks like I put fabric on the backs of my couches, but at least it doesn't look like I live in a house where anything goes and my furniture substitutes as chew toys 90% of the time(oh no, not in this house!!) All in all I'd say I was successful in operation cover up!

Crafty Crafty

I've been dying to have a craft room or maybe even a craft closet in my house. But all my rooms are taken and funny all my closets are full. So... being my oh so in need of a craft space self, I took the desk my dad built me in grade school and painted it(It was a horrible honey yellow stain) with my free Glidden paint, which by the way they are doing another giveaway, and added some cute knobs that are Anthro knockoffs and put it in place of a night stand in my guest bedroom. Add my sewing machine and I am one happy momma! My baby girl has been reaping the benefits of this new crafty desk via a new skirt to wear every day made with this oh sew easy pattern (sew instead of so get it?? :)) LOVE my new old desk and LOVE having a place to be creative, or at least pretend!

The Singing Dryer

See that guy up there?? I was in love with him...was being the operative word. We broke up! It's rough. I just left my old dryer for this new model. The old guy...he liked to sing. Off key and really loudly anytime I used him. So I moved on. But not up apparently. Oh no. Because my new guy...well he doesn't sing, but he doesn't work either. Nope...won't even turn on. (and yes I did plug it in! wink wink) So I am again going through a break up! Hopefully my new, new dryer will work and won't sing and we can start our relationship off right!

Moral of this story? Never trust the discontinued floor model. And don't giggle to yourself because you are supremely cheap and you are getting a screaming deal on a super nice dryer. It will come back to haunt you! :)

Revenge...but in a good way!!

What my Saturday looks like!! Tonight is the game against Texas Tech! Lets keep our fingers crossed that this year looks nothing like last year's game!! Xoxo

ps: My father in law took this picture and it was def the best of the three that we took but there was something on the lens...of course!

Oh my

Well...I had the less than brilliant idea this afternoon to mow my entire front yard with one of these. I LOVED my reel mower when we lived in NC. But our yard was literally about 6 feet wide by about 8 feet long. Takes postage stamp to a whole new level right? Our yard now? HUGE! As in I could probably build another house in it and still have room to spare:) What was I thinking? And on top of the monstrous yard, the grass was at least twice as tall as it should be to successfully use a reel mower to cut it:) Needless to say my arms have passed sore and are to the numb, are they still attached stage and my legs...well lets just not go there!! Hope I can move tomorrow!!

I WANT these!!

I want these boots SO bad!! They are super cute on and I am dying to find them:) I have been looking for a pain of ankle boots that I like for forever! Only problem?? They look cute on Tori Spelling and I don't have her number on speed dial to call and ask where to go and get me a pair:) Any ideas??

How we roll...football style

I don't know if I've told you how much we get into football here in Texas. We grow up on football...even the girls! I was no exception, neither is Ava. For today's away game we painted our toes Burnt Orange and we rocked our burnt orange gear all day. No matter that everyone thought my baby girl was a boy. It's too early to pull out the long sleeve dresses and all of her summer ones are a wee bit too short:) So she wore her t-shirt and jeans lol We had a great second half and we had a blast cheering at our house...with only a few instances of yelling at the tv/refs! We take our football seriously I tell you!
Here is a pic of my girl with her game face on! We're still working on the Horns sign! Maybe by the end of the season she'll have it down!

I'm off to watch Ohio State/USC.

I hope yall are having a great weekend and getting a few drops of this rain we're enjoying!! Maybe next week I can get a few whole family tailgating pictures! we'll see;)

Hero

Be thankful for our heroes today. No matter who you are or what you believe, today is a day to put aside our differences and remember those who have been lost, remember those that are still fighting and remember what they are fighting for.

I love you baby and I am so proud of you!! You are such an inspiration for me and you bring Ava and I so much joy and happiness!! Thank you! You will forever be my marine and my hero!

To: Ryan, Samy, Settle, Numerich, Powell and the many other boys that have been beside my hubby through thick and thin, thank you for what you did and for your unwavering friendship and bravery! I've never met a group of brothers the likes of you!

The Marine Corps was not the defining point in any of your lives, but it brought you all together!!

Jerod...thank you...for still serving, for being the person that you are despite all of it and for being such a good hubby and daddy! Those things are important!

Mounce and Winchester...thank you for the ultimate sacrifice! You will forever be remembered!

USMC...thanks for my LAR...without you we never would have become sisters!

9/11...never forget!

What to do?

This dog right here...my baby...the youngest of our three dogs...ATE my couch! Why, why why??
And it couldn't be in a less obvious spot! Oh no, it's right in the middle of the back! Grr! Any ideas on fixing it??
I am thinking that I am going to go and sell my soul at the fabric store in return for a few yards of Amy Butler's Lotus in faded china...them maybe I'll just reupholster the backs of the two couches by way of upholstery tacks?? Maybe? I don't know. But I do know that that ripped up mess up there is not gunna happen for long in my house:) Wish me luck...and if you have any ideas feel free to let me know!!
